At group time we were reading a story about African animals. I turn to the next page that has a couple of animals, including the giraffe. When I got finished talking one little boy shouts out that the giraffe is like a dinosaur. He continues "All the dinosaurs in Alberta died in the 90's....Hey my parents met in the 90s!!!!".

So three of the boys were attempting to whistle. One of them got thirsty and got some water and guzzled it down. Then went on with his whistling. Then all of a sudden a light bulb went on over his head!!!! After I drank water...I could whistle better. The next thing you know they all are lining up at the sink with their cups....Filling them right up....and drinking them as fast as they could!!!. Then did a few good whistles and then they were back to the sink for more water. I saw what was happening and strongly encouraged them that the amount of water they were putting in their mouth would soon send them all running to the bathroom! I assured them that either licking their lips or putting just a tiny little bit of water in their cup would do the trick just fine.

As I go to collect my things inside before leaving work for the day one little 2 year old follows me inside. I soon learn that he is looking for a drink of water. I inform him that his water bottle is sitting on the table outside and to get a drink from there. But he still proceeds to take off his shoes. I urge him to get them back on and go get his water bottle outside. By this point he was a little frustrated with me...He all of a sudden blurts out "I am going to pick you up...and throw you in the river!!!". I busted into laughter...and so did he (cause I was)!!! I told him..."good luck with that". Considering that fact that he is two...and that there are no rivers in sight. What a kid. And just so you know...he did get those shoes back on while we laughed...then ran outside and bee lined to his water bottle.

This morning this one little three year old arrives at daycare. She is the first to arrive and no other children had showed up yet. She tells me in her most serious voice "I'm way to busy to be here at daycare!!!". I asked her what all she had to do today...I believe it had something to do with camping. Then she went on for a while saying that she really did not have the time to be at daycare and that she was way to busy for this.

One day this one three year old boy says to me "I'm little right, Sarah?". "Yes you sure are but you are growing bigger and stronger every day". He then states "When I get big I'm going to wear Axe like my Dad".

One morning after her mom dropped her off I was chatting with a sweet 5 year old girl. She turned to me...changing the subject says "When I am big enough to drive...I'm going to drink coffee!!!".

Something that has baffled me for a while. There are 2 or 3 kids at work that feel the need to take off one of their shoes during lunch time. JUST ONE. It's an everyday occurrence and it's the only time they do it. I personally would not wear any shoes if I had the choice. But one shoe?? Humm.

I had just returned to sit at a table with a couple kids when I hear the one little guy pipe up. "Imagine we had NO teachers!!!...(short pause)...We could do whatever we wanted!!!".

A group of four boys playing with some trains and Lego. One four year old shouts "Who just farted??". The other three say "not me!". Then the first boy giggles a little and shouts "I DID IT!!!".
Boys will be boys.

While exploring the woods and a swap like area with the kids. Suddenly my coworker shouts!! SHARK!!! All the kids scream...and the kid to scream the loudest was the one with the shark hoodie on. I know that was a mean trick to play...but it was soooo incredibly funny to see the look on that boys face.

While sitting down beside a 2 year old little girl. I watched as she admired the jar that held a few live crickets (she was looking at one in particular). She soon turned to me with a bright smile on her face and with a little giggle and said "They are soooo cute and cuddly!!!". Now a cricket is not usually the first thing I think about as "cute and cuddly" but is was cute to see/ hear her thoughts on these critters.

Mother's Day Edition!!

So I put together a fun little gift for Mother's Day for all the daycare moms...with the kids help of course!! So it was a picture frame made of Popsicle sticks (with bright colored thread wrapped around the four corners). The kids colored them beautifully. Next I put up the letters on the wall "I Love You Mom Because". I then asked them what they loved about their mom and then wrote it on a small chalk board. I then got the child to stand beside the words on the wall while holding the chalk board.
Now these are some things that they came up with.

I Love You Mom Because:

~You make Crepes

~ You turn the TV on and give me fruit snacks

~ You take me on walks

~ You give great hugs

~ You play with me and give great hugs

~ You play with me

~ You always say I love you

~ You give great hugs

~You make my favorite food

~ I love you all the time

~ You give me stickers

Now these kids are all from the ages of 3-5 year old.

While sitting and playing with toy trains. One little girl looks at my arm and says "You have fur!". I told her that it was brown hair and that she had hair on her arms too except hers was blond so she could not see it as easily! Then one little guy playing there too pipes up "I have grey hair! (pointing at his head)". I said to him "you must be very old than". He then proudly holds up four fingers!!
I just remembered this story today. So a while back while we were putting the children down for naps I was sitting beside one little guy. He was one of the last ones to actually fall asleep. He was laying there very still and quiet and I thought he was about to fall asleep...When he suddenly sits all the way up! He looks me straight in the face and says "Sawah (that's how he says it) Sawah, my daddy puts his finger in his nose!!". Then proceeded to lay back down and went to sleep. It took A LOT not to burst into laughter...then I remembered that I better hold it in or I would be putting the rest of the kids back to sleep.

I told one little guy that it was time to clean up the toys he was playing with and get cleaned up for lunch. He then looked me in the eyes and said "I really need to feed my face!!!" I told him just as soon as the toys were picked up...we would feed his face!.

Today one little girl asked what I was doing. I told her I was making a cup of tea. She then asks "Are your Sick?" I told her that people drink tea even when they are not sick...she was a little surprised.

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

Today one little guy told me in a matter of fact way that C (one of the teachers) would be getting a pair of shoes just like his. He said that when his dad got there they would be heading right to the store...with C to buy a pair. Now these shoes are a very great pair...with spider man on the side and little flashing lights that light up as the child walks. I have no doubt in my mind that C would look smashing wearing these shoes!! I'm not sure they come in her size considering the fact that C is a little older than my own mother.
Now it was so incredibly hard to keep a straight face...and C had heard and listened to this whole conversation unfold and was also having the hardest time keeping the laughter in.

~We were talking about the vegetables we were having for snack one day. One little girl shouts out..."I don't like the celery, I only like the marshmallows (cauliflower)!!!"

Going back and retrieving quotes

~ One little boy comes up to me with a toy wall leveler. He asks me if he could measure me. I agreed. He looks up after a bit...and says "everything looks good! Your are 41 years old!!" All I could do was laugh...cause my 27th birthday is in a few days!!

~ A 5 year old: "I'm moving to Alberta!!" We tell her that she already lives there. "I'm moving to the Alberta with green grass in it!!!".

~A 4 year old tells me that when he is older he is going to live on a boat at Disney Land!! haha here's a future Disney employee
Then a little while later he is sitting on the opposite end of a crowded table. He tells everyone that he is going to Edmonton to watch his sister play volleyball. Then stands up all proud and talking to no one in particular...shouts: And your going to miss me!!!

~At snack time I over heard one 5 year old girl say to a 4 year old: "When we die...we will Never come back here alive!!"

~One girl saw that a co-worker of mine was looking through the phone book. She then says "My daddy has one of those books!! and he reads it all day long!"

~A boy was playing by himself across the room...all I hear come from his mouth... "I'm a Wild Child!!!". This kid is actually one of the quiet ones...I just stood there giggling!!

~As I waited outside the bathroom...I all of a sudden the 4 year old in there shouts..."SARAH!!! I have a hole in my butt!!!"... She was a little concerned to say the least.

~During our usual bathroom break i peek around the corner to find this little guy putting toilet paper in his shirt pocket. I ask what he is doing and just said "to make my shirt bigger". I'm rather puzzled at the answer. Then i see some more toilet paper sticking between the bottons of his shirt...i soon discover that he has stuffed a couple of wads of toilet paper up his shirt. We discuss the situation a bit...he tells me he wants his shirt bigger so he can wipe. I totally see his logic!! But i told him next time to just pull up his shirt rather than waist a bunch of toilet paper!

~One little guy today told me "my daddy fights dragons at his work"!!!

~Today while playing outside. I hear two 5 year olds play...one is in the sled and the other pulling. The puller asks the other "Are you 5 or 6?...cause I can't pull you if you are 6". Other kid "I'm 5 years old". Puller: "That's good! Wait...if your 5 1/2 I can't pull you either". She then just decides to drop the subject and proceeds to pull her friend around the yard.

~Walked past a conversation at the snack table this morning. One little boy was trying to convince a little girl that "Bummer" is a type of dog.

~While playing with the kids this morning. One other teacher was teasing a two year old that she was going to squeeze his nose...and one 3 year old pipes up "That's a Sin!!".

~So proud of all my daycare kids!! They did awesome at their Christmas concert tonight.
My pep talk!!!: "Don't pick your nose!! And sing loud"!!

~Today I discovered one of the joys of having a child fall asleep on my hand... they may leave an unexpected surprise!!!...a pool of drool!! Gross!!

~Yesterday while getting all the kids dressed to go play outside in the snow. I had one little 3year old boy turn to me and say: "Sarah, I love you, you know"!...Awww

~One 5year old: "Can you get the sprinkler out later?". Sure it was plus 17 for one hour today...not sure that calls for a water party though!!

~One little guy thought I should have went to his birthday party but was a little bummed out that I missed it this year. So I said maybe he could come to my birthday. He was excited about that...the asked "are you going to be 7 or something?". I assured him it was A LOT more than that!!

~One little girl at daycare today...Me: "Did you put all your lunch things away"? Little girl: "Yes! Sir, Miss"
